The Cortland County Chamber of Commerce yesterday (May 8) submitted a letter to the Common Council concerning the child care in our community. Cortland County joins many others across the country that are facing a crisis of service shortages and lack of affordability.
Here in Cortland County, we have just under 3,000 children under the age of six, however the total capacity in our childcare centers is just 957 children, or 33% of the population.
The Chamber urged the Council in its letter to do everything it can to “ to improve the affordability of our local childcare and increase the capacity for our working families.”
