
A ceremony will be held next Wednesday, October 5th at 2pm to honor Alton B. Parker, who began his famous career in Cortland County at the Cortland County Courthouse. The ceremony will also mark the centennial of him laying the ceremonial cornerstone of the County Courthouse.
Currently, Alton B. Parker has a portrait that has been on display in the Main Courtroom at the County Courthouse for a number of years, but without biographical information provided for those curious of who is in the portrait.
The court has now commissioned a plaque to be on display next to Parker’s portrait to commemorate his career.
During the ceremony, the plaque will be dedicated, and former mayor of the City of Cortland, Marty Mack, will also share his knowledge of Judge Parker’s career. There will also be artifacts from Parker’s career on display.
The ceremony will take place at 2pm in the afternoon at the Courthouse and all are welcome to attend with a reception at the rotunda at the conclusion of the ceremony.
