A popular brewery in Cazenovia, and one of the biggest in New York State, now says it’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Officials with Empire Farmstand Brewery made the official announcement last week, but say they’re not closing the 42,000 square foot brewery – only reorganizing their business.
Located on Route 13 (Rippleton Road), Empire currently employs about 100 people and generated about $2.71 million in revenue in 2017, followed by $2.85 million last year.
It was built in 2016, with financial help from the state’s Start Up NY, Empire State Development and other programs.
The filing lists $54,343 in unpaid state and federal taxes, with “priority” unsecured creditors including the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau ($19,704 owed) and the state Department of Taxation and Finance ($34,639 owed).
