Cayuga Medical Center Receives Improved Leapfrog Safety Score
The Leapfrog Group has given Cayuga Medical Center, a member of Centralus Health, an improved Hospital Safety Grade of “B.” The grade reflects meaningful improvements in focused efforts to strengthen safety practices, reduce preventable risks, and standardize care. In addition, data from the next reporting period already shows continued progress, with fewer patient falls, pressure ulcers, and other key safety events.
A major factor resulting in the improvement is credited to nursing leaders and frontline nurses, who have strengthened collaboration, consistency of care, and communication with clinical colleagues and families.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a national program established in 2000, whose grades are free for the public to view and are updated twice a year. Metrics involved with the grading process focus on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries.
