Effective today, September 7th, masks will now be required for staff, visitors and patients at any Cayuga Health System (CHS) location as the current COVID-19 community and transmission levels increase in the counties CHS serves.

Cayuga Health will also continue conducting universal COVID-19 testing for all of their patients admitted to the hospital on top of testing for clinical patients.

The decision was made to reinstate the mandatory masking by the new COVID-19 subvariant, EG.5, which is circulating in the state. Several key indicators found the increase, according to CHS. Those were an increase of SARS-CoV-2 signal in community wastewater testing, rising number of COVID-19 cases, and a notable increase in staff members with COVID-19.

Cayuga Health though says the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 remains stable. Surgical masks will be available at all entrances to CHS facilities and screening procedures will be in place, plexiglass barriers will not be implemented at the moment.
