Cayuga Health says the Cayuga Medical Center’s Birthplace has been awarded for the second straight year the Fidelis Maternal Child Health Award for Excellence.

“Fidelis is proud to present Cayuga Medical Center with a Maternal Health Award for Excellence, as well as an Award for Excellent Care in a Rural Setting. The high level of maternity care provided by Cayuga Medical Center makes a profound impact on the community and those they serve,”

Said Shannon Lombardo, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing for Fidelis, commended Cayuga Medical Center.

The process to be considered for the award includes assessing hospitals on various performance measures for uncomplicated pregnancies. This can include cesarean section delivery rates, early elective deliveries, overall unexpected newborn complications, routine vaginal births after C-sections, exclusive human milk feeding rates, episiotomy rates, birthing-friendly practices, and transparency on racial and ethnic disparities.

Cayuga Health says they’ve also earned recognition for their commitment to maternal health care delivered in rural settings.

“Being acknowledged as one of the premiere hospitals for maternity care is truly an honor. We are deeply grateful for the trust the community places in us to provide care during such a significant time in their lives. The dedication of our team to their work is evident in this recognition, and we are humbled by it.”

Said Brenda Lange, MSN, RN, the Director of Maternal Child Health at CMC, in a release.
