Cortland Police Locate Driver Involved In Sunday Gas Pump Fire

Local News

Update: 11 am Monday, May 7 from Cortland Police

Cortland Police have identified the driver of the vehicle that ran into a pump at the Sunoco Station at 44 Port Watson Street.

According to Lt. Rick Troyer, James Moore, 24, of Cortland, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Moore was released to appear in City Court on May 18.

Police say the driver told them the accident was caused when his foot hit the gas instead of the brake.

The accident sparked a fire in the pump at the corner Port Watson and Church Streets Sunday morning just after 11:30.

Cortland Firefighters say the station’s dry chemical fire supression system confined the flames to the pump until Cortland fire crews arrived.
