Just after 1 in the morning, Cortland Fire responded to Exit 11 (Cortland) on I81 North for a single-vehicle crash of a vehicle into a guardrail on the highway. Upon arrival, first responders found a white SUV facing the wrong way to traffic with heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment.

The driver of the vehicle was unable to get out of the vehicle as a result of the crash, but informed firefighters they were not injured. A passenger was out of the vehicle walking around, Cortland Fire says. A hydraulic spreader was used to open the door with ease and get the driver out safely.

Local law enforcement ended up driving the vehicles occupants to a local hotel and Cortland Fire transported their luggage to the hotel for them. The scene was cleared about an hour after initial time of call.
