Car chase ends with crash in Tully

Local News

A Staten Island man led police on a high-speed chase through two counties early Tuesday morning, ending with his arrest after he wrecked his vehicle in Tully.

Deputies with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office tried pulling over a vehicle for speeding around 2:15 am on Route 281 in Cortlandville.

Instead the driver refused to stop and fled through the towns of Homer, Preble and into Tully — police then disengaged from the chase at the county border.

The suspect was located a short time later after crashing his vehicle in Tully, identified at the scene as 22-year-old Jean-Claude Kukulu.

He was arrested and brought to a nearby hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Kukulu was later released at the hospital on three different appearance tickets to the town courts of Cortlandville, Homer and Preble next month.
