The Cortland Community Action Program or CAPCO is looking for residents in Virgil that want to convert their existing home heating systems to natural gas. The switch is free for income-eligible residents.
In an effort to take advantage of a natural gas line in Virgil and reduce home heating costs for the poor and elderly CAPCO has been awarded a $400 thousand dollar state grant to install energy efficient gas furnaces.
The program is focused on homes along Route 392. The corridor runs from Route 215 to Greek Peak.
Residents who meet income guidelines could receive a free or reduced cost gas furnace. A single person earning less than $26 thousand dollars a year would qualify while a family of four earning $58 thousand dollars or less would qualify for a free heating system.
Residents are urged to sign up soon in order to have the system in place before winter. Virgil residents can call 753-6781 for more information.
