A Cortland tattoo parlor was handed an order to close this week after it was found to be continuing services despite the governor’s NYS on PAUSE Order.
City Police got several complaints this week from citizens and a City Alderman that Caesar’s Under your Skin Tattoo and Piercing at 24 Main Street in Cortland was still accepting clients.
That was confirmed to be true by police, who then issued the order to cease operations in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office.
A failure to comply could result in arrest and hefty fines for the owner.
Certain non-essential businesses may apply to obtain a waiver to remain in operation during this time, with conditions specified on New York State’s website.
However, tattoo establishments have been specifically identified as ineligible for waivers under any circumstance.
“Owners of other non-essential businesses should be aware that their actions do not go unnoticed by the community,” said Cortland Police Lt. Michael Strangeway. “The City Police recognize the economic hardship that is being placed on small businesses, their owners and employees. This is an unprecedented time in our history. Together, as a community, we must abide by the State’s orders and do what is necessary to ensure the health and safety of all Cortland residents.”
