C-Ville Man Charged After Accident Involving ATV

On Friday, August 23rd around 7:40 in the evening, officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Phelps Road in the Town of Homer for a reported crash involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

During an investigation into the cause of the crash, officers determined the operator of the ATV, 69 year old John E. Gilbert of Cortlandville, was operating the ATV on the road while he was intoxicated.

Gilbert was arrested and charged with DWI, Safety Belt not in Use, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Operating Without Insurance, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Speed Unreasonable and Prudent, and Unsafe Tires. He was then taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for further evaluation.

He was later released and issued uniform traffic tickets. Gilbert is due in Homer Town Court next month.
