On Sunday morning, both the Marathon Fire Department and Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp (MAVAC) responded to an area campground for a report of a pickup truck had driven into a pond with the operator still inside, according to a release by MAVAC.
The operator of the pickup truck was rescued by a bystander before the vehicle fully sank into the pond. MAVAC evaluated the operator of the pickup truck, but did not want to be transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.
Cortlandville Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the sunken pickup. With assistance from a civilian kayaker, the vehicle was located under the water and was able to be hooked to a tow truck waiting to pull it out. New York State Police provided additional assistance, according to the release.
The scene was cleared in about 90 minutes from time of call. Ron’s Towing provided assistance in pulling the vehicle out of the pond.
