The Byrne Dairy Yogurt Plant in Cortlandville marked a milestone this week. The plant has been in production for a year. To celebrate the benchmark, the company has installed the first round of decorative windmills.
On Wednesday, tower climbing crews were busy installing one of two windmills in front of the Byrne Dairy Yogurt Plant on Route 13 in Cortlandville. The company plans to install seven windmills at various heights.
Jim Gosier with Byrne says the windmills are intended to provide a focal point for visitors to the plant and the community. As time goes on and the company expands operations more decorative windmills will be added.
Gosier says the blades of the windmills will be lit with L-E-D lights and the colors can be changed to reflect the season or other activities at the plant.
The yogurt plant is the first phase of the Byrne Dairy plant in South Cortland.
The company plans to open a cheese manufacturing facility there and plans to add an agri-tourism and events center to showcase their products. Gosier expects work on the cheese manufacturing facility to begin in 2016.
