
Burglary of Home in Cortlandville Leads to Arrest of Suspect – Found in Possession of Drugs
Just after 5 in the evening on July 11th, officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Town of Cortlandville for a reported burglary. During their investigation into the burglary, the Sheriff’s Office says they were able to identify the male suspect as 33 year old Aaron R. Vandebogart, who is listed as homeless.
The Sheriff’s Office says Vandebogart had entered an out building of the property and stole property prior to fleeing the scene. On Saturday morning, both officers from Cortland Police and the Sheriff’s Office were able to locate Vandebogart in the City of Cortland. He was arrested and found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
He faces charges of Burglary in the 3rd, a Felony, and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor. Police additionally charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, a Misdemeanor. Vandebogart was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and later arraigned via the Centralized Arraignment Process where he was released on his own recognizance. He is due in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.
