Broome County Man Hits Stopped School Bus Full of Kids

Local News

State police in Broome County responded to a crash involving a school bus yesterday (February 19) on State Route 11 in the town of Kirkwood.

Troopers say a Susquehanna Valley School District bus was stopped with its lights flashing and stop-arm extended, when 56-year-old Michael Patchen, of Conklin, rear-ended it with his Buick minivan.

An investigation found Conklin had failed to notice that the bus was stationary.

All 27 students on-board were evaluated by a school nurse and did not require hospital care.

Patchen sustained injuries to his hands and was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

So far, no charges have been announced by police.
