Brian Wilson Scores First Top 20 Album In Over A Decade

Music News

Brian Wilson is back with his first solo Top 20 hits in over a decade. Wilson’s new critically acclaimed No Pier Pressure album debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at an impressive Number 17, marking the Beach Boys genius’ highest charting album since 2004’s Grammy Award-winning Brian Wilson Presents Smile collection, which topped out at Number 13.

No Pier Pressure features plenty of special guests, including fellow Beach Boys Al Jardine, David Marks, and Blondie Chaplin, along with such newer artists as Kacey Musgraves, fun.’s Nate Ruess, She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, Peter Hollens, and Capital Cities’ Sebu Simonian.

At 72-years-old, Wilson remains a leader in the recording studio, co-writing, arranging, and co-producing the set — despite being 96 percent deaf in his right ear, rendering him unable to understand or hear true stereo: “The advantage of having one ear is you hear everything through one source — mono. And that goes to your brain, so your brain hears one source of sound. The downside is that you don’t get to hear the depth and the beauty of the two ear thing.”
