Officials with the Cayuga County Health Department yesterday (October 21) issued a Boil Water Order for the Town of Locke public water system, advising anyone in the affected area to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
The concern involves repairs being done to the town’s water distribution system, which have created a loss of water pressure that may allow disease-causing organisms to enter into the system.
Once the repairs are completed, the Town will take samples to confirm there is no contamination in the distribution system.
Those who are affected should bring all water to a boil, then boil it for one minute before letting it cool down prior to use.
Residents will be notified when the Boil Water Order has officially lapsed, which isn’t expected for several days.
