Cortland Police arrested 28-year-old Kristoffer Woodman of Hatfield Road on Wednesday night of last week, after he reportedly broke into a garage.
Police responded to an Owego Street residence for someone being in a garage without permission. Police determined he had entered the garage unlawfully. According to police, while in the garage, Woodman had defecated in a box containing vinyl records.
Woodman was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree, a Felony, and Criminal Tampering, a misdemeanor.
He was remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $2500 cash bail or $5000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in City Court last Friday. (May 31st)
Police also broke up a different burglary the next morning, where four homeless individuals were found inside vacant apartments on Groton Avenue.
Cortland police tell us at 10:30 AM last Thursday (May 30th) they were called to investigate a reported Burglary that had occurred on Groton Avenue. When officers arrived, a number of open doors were found at neighboring vacant apartments. Police found Michael Leonard (30) listed as homeless, standing on the front porch of one of these vacant apartments. The door to that apartment was open. He was in possession of a hammer and a bottle of wine that officers suspected might be stolen from one of the apartments. While speaking with him about being at the vacant apartment, he suddenly took off running. Police quickly chased him down and took him into custody.
The investigation continued and police entered the vacant apartment to be sure no other individuals were present. Andrew Fiorentini, age 36, Amber Malloy, age 35, and Mary Crysler, age 36, all listed as homeless, were found hiding inside the vacant apartment.
All were taken into custody. Leonard was charged with Possession of Burglar’s tools, Criminal Trespass, Obstruction of governmental administration and Using the license of another person.
Leonard was remanded to the Cortland County Jail on $1000 cash bail and scheduled to return to City court on June 5th.
Fiorentini, Malloy and Crysler were all charged with; Criminal Trespass. They were released and scheduled to appear in City Court on June 14th.
