Bike Operator Thrown From Bike After Traveling at Unsafe Speeds on Route 11 in Polkville – Transported to Upstate
Just before 8:15 in the evening on Tuesday, June 24th, emergency personnel responded to the Sunoco on Route 11 in Polkville for a reported motorcycle crash. Cortlandville Fire, TLC Ambulance, State Police, and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. Dispatch reported the operator of the bike was unconscious and had agonal breathing.
Emergency personnel were quickly able to respond with the operator transported by TLC Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital. Route 11 was briefly shut down as a result of the crash at Weaver Road; Weaver Road intersects Route 11 twice and traffic was diverted to this roadway.
An investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office found the motorcycle was actually a battery powered bicycle. The operator of the bike, who was not identified, was traveling south east on Route 11 at an unsafe speed, the Sheriff’s Office says. The bike operator then lost control of the bike at the unsafe speed and was thrown from the bike.
The operator sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office says.
