We’re now well into the busiest shopping season of the year and that means a heightened concern over so-called “porch pirates,” who get that name by stealing packages delivered near the homes of unsuspecting victims.
New legislation proposed in the state senate could one day make that a felony-level crime.
That measure was officially brought to the floor yesterday (December 3) by State Sen. Daphne Jordan (R-Halfmoon).
A 2018 found more than 26 million Americans have fallen victim to porch pirates, and they’ll certainly have plenty of opportunity to commit their crimes.
This holiday season alone, the Unites States Postal Service estimates it will deliver around 800 million packages across the U.S.
