The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday (December 7) morning inside a home on Shaffer Road in the town of Newfield.
Authorities were called to the scene just before 1:30 a.m. and say arrived to find one of the residents had already perished from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Dejour Xavier Gandy.
Another resident who was home at the time called 911 and reported that three black males with face coverings had entered the home with guns drawn, one of which shot Gandy before all three fled the scene.
Investigators believe the incident was a specific, targeted attack and that there’s not a continued threat to the public at large.
They’ve conducted several interviews so far and continue to investigate leads on an ongoing basis to identify the suspects.
Any Newfield residents with exterior surveillance camera systems in the areas of Shaffer Road, Pearl Street, and Main Street are asked to contact authorities through the Tompkins County Emergency Response Center at (607) 273-8000.
