Assistant Professor at SUNY Cortland One of Four Honored by Senator Webb

Last Thursday, February 20th, New York Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) honored local Black leaders within the 52nd Senate District in recognition of Black History Month. Part of the celebration was the presentation of four official awards from the state senate, which highlighted the essential impact and accomplishments of Black individuals and businesses within the community.

Senator Webb presented three Commendation Awards and then one Empire Award during last Thursday’s ceremony. Webb’s Office says the awards recognize each individual for their dedication to community, service, education, and lasting impact for future generations.

One of the recipients of the NYS Senate Commendation Award was presented to Dr. Tracy Hudson, Assistant Professor at SUNY Cortland. Other awards were presented to:

  • Asia Ambler, School Mental Health Site Supervisor at Binghamton University Community Schools (BUCS); A recipient of a NYS Senate Commendation Award.
  • Dr. Luvelle Brown, Superintendent of Ithaca City School District; A recipient of a NYS Senate Commendation Award.
  • Jesus Clarke, Owner of Big Zues Barbecue; A recipient of a NYS Senate Empire Award

“Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and leadership of those who are making a difference in our communities. I am honored to recognize Ms. Asia Ambler, Dr. Luvelle Brown, Mr. Jesus Clarke, and Dr. Tracy Hudson for their outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship, service, leadership, education, and uplifting the next generation of students. Their dedication and impact within Senate District 52 serve as an inspiration to us all, and I am proud to celebrate their work in building a brighter, more equitable future not just during the month of February but everyday of the year.” Said Senator Webb.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive this Black History Award from Senator Lea Webb and to stand alongside so many remarkable individuals who are making a lasting impact in their Communities,” said Dr. Tracy Hudson. “As an Assistant Professor in the Physical Education Department at SUNY Cortland and the President of the Ithaca Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I take great pride in leading by example—creating spaces where all people are seen as able, valuable, and responsible.
