Assemblymember Gallahan Joins Call For Delay in Implementation of Changes to CDPAP
On Tuesday, Assemblymember Jeff Gallahan (AD-131) was part of a press conference to support NY State Assembly & Senate Republican Conferences’ on their call for a delay of the implementation of changes to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP).
According to a release by Gallahan’s office, CDPAP provides home care services to 280,000 elderly and disabled New Yorkers. Those who currently utilize CDPAP services have now been required to register with a statewide fiscal intermediary, Public Partnerships LLC by April 1st. Gallahan says the transition period began only on January 6th of this year, giving just a three month window for residents to register. Currently, over 100,000 have yet to complete this registration requirement.
“Our state’s more than 280,000 elderly and disabled residents who rely on home care services should not be subjected to a potential lapse in the services CDPAP provides due to an unreasonable deadline,”
Said Gallahan.
Legislation S.6689, introduced by Republican Senators and Assemblymembers would extend the timeline for the proposed changes of the program from April 1st to July 1st. If the extension is not done, Gallahan says thousands of residents, who rely on the program, are at risk for their home-based assistance.
“S.6689 will allow residents to continue to have access to care by extending the deadline for new changes to CDPAP from April 1, 2025, to July 1, 2025. I am proud to support this endeavor and send a clear message to our constituents: the Senate and Assembly Republican Conferences have their backs.”
The bill is sponsored by NY Senator Patrick M. Gallivan of the 60th District. It is currently in the State Senate Health Committee. More information on the bill may be found HERE.
