Arrest Report – Multiple Arrests at Walmart

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office have responded to numerous calls to Walmart in Cortlandville on larceny complaints.



On July 28th around 4 in the afternoon, officers responded to the store for a larceny complaint. An investigation found 53 year old John F. Maricle of Cortland, and another unidentified male at the time, had stolen merchandise from the store and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Maricle was then located by police on August 5th with assistance from the Cortland Police Department. He was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny and Conspiracy in the 6th, both Misdemeanors. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and later released on an appearance ticket. Maricle is due to appear in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.


Around 7pm on August 12th, officers again responded to Walmart for a larceny complaint. The investigation found 31 year old Sara L. VanHousen of Dryden, has stolen from the store. VanHousen also had a trespass from the store. She was arrested and charged with Burglary in the 3rd, a Felony, and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor.

VanHousen was processed and later released on her own recognizance. She is due to appear in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.


Two days later, on August 14th, officers again responded to the store for another larceny complaint. The investigation by officers found 44 year old Jennifer L. Felton of Berkshire had stolen from the store while she had a trespass against her from the property.

She was arrested and charged with Burglary in the 3rd, a Felony, and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor. Felton was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where she was arraigned and later released on her own recognizance.


Around 8pm on August 16th, officers again arrived at Walmart for a larceny complaint. The investigation found 20 year old Rhiannon N. Stillwell and 18 year old Katelyn E. Burdick, both of Freetown, had damaged merchandise and stole from the store.

Both women were charged with Petit Larceny, Criminal Mischief in the 4th, and Conspiracy in the 6th, all Misdemeanors. They were transported to the Sheriff’s Office where they were processed and later released on appearance tickets. Stillwell and Burdick are due in Cortlandville Town Court next month.
