Arrest Made in Stabbing at Agava Restaurant in February

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest after a lengthy investigation was conducted by officers.




The Sheriff’s Office arrested Jemeel C. Melton of Ithaca on April 12th and charged him with Assault in the 1st degree, a Felony. Melton was arraigned in Tompkins County Court and later released by the judge under the supervision of probation.

Back on February 26th, around midnight, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing at the Agava Restaurant on Pine Tree Road. As officers arrived, they found two people who were stabbed in an altercation.

The investigation found a 21-year old bystander had attempted to intervene in the dispute and was stabbed by Melton. As the altercation continued, another victim, a 26-year old man, was also stabbed before Melton fled the scene.

Both victims suffered critical injuries after the stabbings, with one transported to Upstate and the second to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. Their current conditions are unknown.
