A call for smoke in the attic came in to Cortland County 911, just after 10 am this morning (January 15th) on Route 41, Just north of Break Hill Road.
Homer Firefighters arrived on scene just minutes later to find the home at 1578 Route 41 in the Town of Homer, with heavy smoke coming from the attic. They then called for a second alarm and an all hands fire for Homer firefighters.
Bitter cold temps, hovering around zero made very tough work for firefighters, but a quick response stopped the fire from spreading further.
Mutual aid was immediately called with the second alarm. The Cortlandville, Preble, Truxton, McGraw, Spafford Fire Department’s all responded, along with TLC ambulance. The Groton and Virgil Fire Department’s put an engine on standby in Homer while the whole department was on scene.
All residents did evacuate with no injuries reported.
Route 41 was closed as firefighters were on scene, but now has reopened.
