Archival Police concert album, ‘Live On Air: Miami 1979,’ being released Friday

MVD Entertainment GroupA live album capturing a May 1979 performance by The Police during the band’s second tour of the U.S. will be released on CD this Friday, February 21.

Live On Air: Miami 1979 was taken from a radio broadcast of a show that the U.K. new wave legends played at the Fat Cats Club while on the road promoting their 1978 debut album, Outlandos d’Amour.

The Police’s set featured renditions of nine of Outlandos d’Amour‘s 10 tunes, plus three songs from the group’s then-upcoming second album, Regatta de Blanc, which arrived in November of ’79.

Among the memorable tunes the future Rock & Roll Hall of Famers played were “Roxanne,” “Message in a Bottle,” “Can’t Stand Losing You,” “So Lonely” and “Next to You.”
