AR Style Rifle Found – Former Cortland Student Arrested For Threat To School

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was asked to investigate a threat to Cortland High School made online on Friday.

According to Lt. Todd Caufield, a member of the Cortland Class of 2016 was involved.

Photos and a video of a threat against the school were found on the Snapchat account of Jensen Schack, who is 19.

Caufield reports the investigation took his team to the suspect’s home in the Town of Plymouth, Chenango County, this morning (Saturday) to execute a search warrant.

Schack was taken into custody without incident, and an AR style semi-automatic rifle with ammunition was located and seized, according to police.

The teenager was charged with a felony, Making a Terroristic Threat, arraigned in Cortland City Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail awaiting $100,000 bail.

Schack’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 10 am.

According to Lt. Caufield, school district authorities were notified of the potential threat at the start of the investigation.

Staff at the school were also notified by district leadership.

Assisting the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office with the execution of the search warrant was the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible, says Caufield.
