The month of April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Cortland County Child Advocacy Center is asking the public in raising awareness by planting a pinwheel garden to prevent child abuse.

The pinwheels will serve as a visual reminder that everyone plays a role in child abuse prevention. You can join in raising awareness with the blue pinwheels available. The blue pinwheels represent a safe, happy and carefree childhood that every child deserves to experience.

Additionally, on Monday, April 3rd, the Child Advocacy Center is asking everyone to wear blue to support positive childhood experiences for all children. At 1pm on Monday, the Cortland County Legislature will also proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month for Cortland County at the county courthouse.

A visual reminder of 151 pinwheels will also be on display, showing the number of children abused in Cortland County last year.

For those interested in planting their own pinwheel garden, you may visit the Advocacy Center at 60 Central Ave. in Cortland between the hours of 9am to 4pm. A pinwheel garden costs $20 and includes 10 pinwheels and 1 lawn sign. For more information you may call the Advocacy Center at 607-753-5087.
