The 1994 Discovery Enforce boat and the Kristi trailer the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office had was sold recently after high repair costs, and a hole in the hull of the boat forced the sale. During the Cortland County Legislative meeting for the month of April, the Sheriff’s Office was seeking approval for the purchase of a new boat and trailer.

The Sheriff’s Office only had only one boat to patrol waterways within the county, including Little York Lake. In the county resolution, the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will be providing up to half the cost of a replacement boat and trailer through the state Navigation Enforcement State Aid Program.

The new boat will be a 2024 MetalCraft Welded Aluminum 21’ Fast Responder boat with a Mercury 250HP outboard motor and an aluminum tandem-axle bunk trailer for a total cost of $121,656.

The Legislature voted unanimously to approve providing funds available for the Sheriff’s Office through the Vehicle Repair/Replacement Reserve Fund. The State Aid program will provide a reimbursement up to half of the total cost of the new purchase of boat and trailer.
