Eligible nonprofits in Cortland County can apply now for 2021 marketing and tourism grants that support events/programs focused on boosting travel and business to the area.
The annual funding comes from a local occupancy tax collected at 5% per-room on all overnight lodging stays in the county.
Applications are due back no later than 12pm on Friday, October 9 – those are available in-person at the Convention & Visitors Bureau (42 Main Street in Cortland) or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org,
“Everyone is well aware of the effect the COVID pandemic has had on the tourism industry here in Cortland County,” said Meghan Lawton, Executive Director of the CVB. “The vast majority of our signature county events were cancelled and many of our tourism businesses remain closed to the public. However, we look forward to the future and to welcoming the visiting public back to Cortland County in 2021, and the announcement and availability of these marketing grants is a positive step in accomplishing those goals.”
According to Lawton, the goal of the Tourism Marketing Grant program is to provide support for external marketing efforts (marketing placed outside of Cortland County) that will in turn stimulate increased overnight stays, tourism business and visitor spending.
Duly incorporated Cortland County tourism-related 501c3 organizations are eligible to apply.
Examples of past awardees include the 1890 House Museum, Homer Center for the Arts, CNY Maple Festival and many others. (see the list of 2020 allocations here)
