Another Rally Announced by Indivisible Cortland County For Friday
Another rally is planned to be held tomorrow, Friday May 16th beginning at 4:30pm in front of Courthouse Park in the City of Cortland. The rally is being organized by Indivisible Cortland County (ICC). According to ICC, the rally is to voice their opposition to the Federal Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which they say will cut funding for vital programs such as HEAP, Head Start, and more.
In a release by the organization, the proposed budget shows planned cuts amounting to $163 billion to programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Adult Literacy & High School Equivalency programs, Center for Medicare & Medicaid service, Public Housing Section 8, Senior Housing, Community Services Block Grants, K-12 Education Title 1 Funding, and Migrant Education.
“The White House budget proposals will gut rural America, harm people right here in Cortland County and place heavy strain on our local institutions. Working parents, seniors, people with disabilities, along with the people staffing our schools, hospitals and government services will all feel the impact when these vital, core services are eliminated or cut.” Indivisible Steering Committee member Gail Bundy said in a release.
ICC says protesters will be gathered to peacefully protest the proposed funding cuts by displaying signs, singing, and encouraging passing motorists to honk their support. More information on the organization may be found HERE.
