Another Protest Planned by Indivisible Cortland County Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Thursday May 1st from 4:30-5:30pm, another rally will be held on the sidewalk in front of Courthouse Park by the fountain in the City of Cortland. The rally is being organized by Indivisible Cortland County, who say it will be part of a national Day of Action to support workers and unions.

According to the organization, since the 1880’s, May Day has been an annual celebration of unions within the country. Indivisible Cortland County says this year’s protest is especially important as the lives of immigrants are being threatened by the current administration.

“There are very few people who haven’t had to work for a living. It’s only billionaires who don’t need to care about those who work for a living,”

ICC steering committee member Berggren-Thomas said in a release.

The US Census Bureau says immigration has been a driving force in labor growth in the US in the last 20 years. ICC continued on to note information from the National Academy of Sciences that immigrants pay more in taxes over time than they use benefits from the government bringing a net positive to the US Government.

Indivisible Cortland County was formed back in 2016 as a political advocacy group. The organization says tomorrow’s protest will have participants peacefully gather to bring attention to concerns they have with the current administration regarding immigration policies.
