A few motorists may have gotten stuck in a bit of traffic yesterday morning on Route 281 as a massive 172,000 pound oversized load slowly crept its way through Cortland County with an escort of utility trucks, escort vehicles, and State Police.
It’s not the first time this kind of load traveled through the county, the most recent was back in September of last year. The transportation company, Miller Transfer of Rootstown Ohio again carried the nearly 200,000 pound condenser made by Graham Engineering in Batavia, NY. The condenser is reported to be part of construction of a nuclear submarine.
Traffic was briefly backed up, but overall, transportation was a much smoother process this time. The last move required tree trimming in the Village of Homer, which led to multiple delays and upset a few neighbors who say they were given no notice of the impact.
