The New York State Department of Environmental has announced the annual Arbor Day Poster contest is now going on. The DEC’s Urban and Community Forestry Program begins a contest that will promote the value of trees in the environment.
The winner of the contest will then have their photo and artwork reproduced as the 2023 Arbor Day poster to commemorate the holiday in the state.
“Arbor Day reminds us to appreciate the immeasurable benefits trees provide to ecosystems, public health, and the fight against climate change,” said Commissioner Seggos. “I invite all New Yorkers to highlight the beauty and importance of New York’s trees with their photography and artwork.”
The contest is sponsored by the NYS Arbor Day Committee, which includes the DEC, Empire State Forestry Foundation, NYS Arborist Association, State Department of Agriculture and Markets, and Sylvamo North America.
The DEC is accepting original photos and artwork submissions through December 31, 2022. Those who enter the contest must feature trees within the state and send to arborday@dec.ny.gov.
“In addition to their scenic beauty, trees provide useful wood products, help mitigate stormwater, and improve water quality,” State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said. “The Arbor Day Poster Contest is a wonderful celebration of New York’s trees and their contributions to our lives.”
There will also be a poster contest submission form that participants must fill out and submit. More information can be found at the DECs website HERE.
