Annual 1890 Union Fair Taking Place Next Saturday in Marathon – Old Time Dairy Farmers Welcomed

Old Time Dairy Farmers are being sought as the annual 1890 Union Fair will be taking place next Saturday, September 7th in the Village of Marathon. Organizers for the event say one exhibit will celebrate the past practices of dairy farming.

Dairy farming was once considered the most important business and also way of life for the county, organizers say. Members of the Marathon community are asking anyone who can exhibit photos, items and stories regarding their “dairy connection.”

The exhibit on dairy history will feature the practices of old dairy farms and the versatility of milk. This includes milking by hand to machines and dumping stations, cream separators, milk cans, jugs, bottles, and more.

Residents who would like to donate items and photos are encouraged to and may contact Hope Cross, a coordinator for the exhibit at 607-849-3960.
