American Red Cross Asking For Blood and Platelet Donations During Holiday Season

The American Red Cross with the holiday celebrations now well underway, and they are asking residents to make a holiday tradition by giving blood or platelets. Those who can donate and give the gift of blood will also get a gift.

From December 9th through the 15th, those who donate will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Those giving from December 16th through January 3rd, will receive an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved t-shirt while supplies last.

The blood type needed the most is Type O negative, platelet donations are also needed to help ensure patients who need it may continue to receive the care they need in the next few weeks.

“Record-breaking November travel is expected to carry into the new year, which could cause some potential donors to put off blood donation until after the holiday season. In addition to millions of Americans traveling to spend holidays with loved ones, extended vacations are also surging in popularity at a time when fewer people may be available to give lifesaving blood products.”
