Jack Eves: [00:00:00] X 101. Always classic. Hello, Jack Eves in the studio and joining me in the studio today is the owner of all my friends’ books, which is a great locally owned bookstore, right on Main Street in downtown Cortland. Haley Flannery. Haley, good to see you. How are you?

Haley Flannery: I’m great. Thanks for having me, Jack.

Jack Eves: Of course.

Gr always great to have you here in the studio and speaking with another. Local business owner and you got some exciting news that’s coming up this summer, which I think everyone’s happy with. ’cause that means warm weather, but also a good little incentive that’s happening now. Is that right?

Haley Flannery: Yes. Um, so we have our inaugural Central New York book crawl coming up in July, so this will be a 10 day regional celebration of independent bookstores across five counties with 18 participating bookstores.

Jack Eves: That’s amazing. 18 participating bookstores all locally owned, I’m assuming. Absolutely through those five counties. And before that even kicks off though, you guys are. Working to create a theme for this [00:01:00] book crawl. Is that right?

Haley Flannery: Yes. So to mark, this first year, we’re launching a public design contest to create our official theme and logo submissions are due on March 16th, and we’ll select our winner in April.

Jack Eves: And what can that winner expect, you know, if their work is selected?

Haley Flannery: Yeah. Um, so the winning design is going to be used on our website and digital platforms. Our printed materials, event merchandise, and our media assets, the selected designer will also receive a cash prize and written credit wherever the design is used.

Jack Eves: That sounds pretty good. And you know, it was joking. We were joking before we went on air that we’re lucky that Corland has some pretty good artists. And it would be cool to see a Courtland artist get selected for this and then see their work across those five counties too.

Haley Flannery: Yes, I am expecting big things from our Cortland and Cland County artists, so we are excited to see your submissions

Jack Eves: and that, and you know, if they’re hearing this right now, they’re probably [00:02:00] already working towards it.

And you know, with their creativity, you never know what that theme could be. And. What’s really good with artists, especially around here in Cortland, is they know how to connect things that you typically wouldn’t think of.

Haley Flannery: Yes, absolutely. We are expecting, you know, some great, uh, community themes and, you know, we hope to, we hope to feature someone local in our campaign.

Jack Eves: And that’s amazing to see. And again, that inaugural book crawl is on July 10th through the 19th. But right now, local artists, please tune on in right now. You have a chance to do a creative submission to for that overall theme that’s due March 16th and. More information, including the form of where they can submit their work, can be found through your Facebook page, right?

Haley Flannery: Yes. Please visit our Facebook page, um, to find out more information about the contest and also the crawl as that rolls out over the coming months.

Jack Eves: I cannot wait to, to actually see that in motion [00:03:00] because, uh, I don’t think this area really has ever, ever had a book crawl.

Haley Flannery: No. Uh, again, this is the first one and we’ve had so many independent bookstores pop up across the central New York region.

We are just all thrilled for each other and want this to be a big celebration of bookish and book lovers in our region. So. Please come out and show your support.

Jack Eves: That’s amazing to hear. Hailey. Always appreciate you coming into the studio to speak with us on this. Again, creative submissions are due March 16th.

More information can be found through all my friends’ books, Facebook page. Hailey, is there anything else you’d like to add?

Haley Flannery: I’m excited for everyone to start thinking about how they are going to build their literary road trip this summer. Five counties is a big space. It’s so we really encourage you to explore different areas that you haven’t been to and businesses that are locally owned beyond bookstores,

Jack Eves: and that’s great.

You know, and always that motto, if you shop small, your money [00:04:00] stays local. Haley, always great to come in. Thank you again.

Haley Flannery: Thank you

Jack Eves: for X 1 0 1. I’m Jack Eves
