Last night, (May 17th) the election inspectors completed their initial count in Cortland’s Budget Vote and School Board Election.
These results are unofficial.
They will become official at the next Board of Education meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m.
The preliminary budget results are:
• Proposition #1 (Budget) – Passed – (513-165)
• Proposition #2 (Bus purchase) – Passed – (501-175)
• Proposition #3 (Sale of building) – Passed – (473-218)
• Proposition #4 (Library Tax) – Passed – (509-179)
• Proposition #5 (Student member) – Passed – (563-117)
The most controversial proposition was number three, the sale of Virgil Elementary. This will clear the district to sell the school.
The preliminary Board Member election results are:
• Donald Chu – 3 year term
There was also a write in campaign. The district will be contacting that candidate with the highest votes this morning to ensure that they will accept the position.
The district tells us they’ll make an announcement later this week on the write in campaign.
Superintendent Bob Edwards did release a statement thanking everyone involved and to those who voted.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in creating the budget for their time and effort this year. I am grateful for all who exercised their right to vote, and for all who continue to have positive effects on our future generations.”
