Ake Gallery in Cortland Accepting Submissions For Exhibition in November Titled “Remastered”

The Ake Gallery, located at 165 South Main Street in Cortland at the Crescent Commons Building, is accepting submissions for “Remastered”, which is a juried art exhibition that’ll run from November 7th through December 5th.

The Ake Gallery says “Remastered” invites artists to reimagine, parody or misinterpret famous artworks, artists and movements. The exhibition will feature copies, forgeries, “poorly conceived restorations” and “delightfully” inaccurate tributes of iconic pieces throughout art history.

“Imagine “Dogs Playing Poker” reworked as The Last Supper, or the Mona Lisa with a perm. What if American Gothic featured a pitchfork-wielding alien and his rebellious teen daughter? Remastered celebrates irreverence, mashups and affectionate satire, asking: What if irreverence is the sincerest form of flattery?” Paul Kozlowski of the Ake Gallery said.

In total, there are six categories open for submissions. Those categories include Masterpieces Reimagined, Time-Traveling Portraits, Mashups & Collisions, Art School Dropouts, Movement Misfits, and Show Offs.

According to the Ake, all prize money will reflect the current forged art market value. There will also be a “People’s Choice” visual-art award for the artwork that gets the most votes from visitors to the Remastered exhibit.

Those interested in submitting work are asked to complete a submission form online, HERE. All submissions are due by October 4th.
