Additional Free Fishing Day Announced For End of August

New York State has announced an additional Free Fishing Day during the Labor Day weekend as a last day to “Get Offline, Get Outside.” The day will be on Saturday, August 31st with the freshwater fishing requirement waived. The additional day now brings a total of 7 Free Fishing Days the state has offered this year.

“As summer winds down, it’s the perfect time to get outside, enjoy nature, and fish with family and friends. Fishing can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or ability, and I encourage both new and practiced anglers to use this bonus free fishing day to throw out a line and experience New York’s world-class fisheries.” New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Interim Commissioner Sean Mahar said.

During the Free Fishing Day, the license requirement will be waived for freshwater fishing only throughout the state. The Department of Environmental Conservation does remind all anglers all other fishing regulations will remain in effect.

More information on places to fish, how to get started fishing, and more may be found through the DECs website.
