AAA Offers TIps on Washing Off Ash From Your Vehicle

Central New York has been blanketed with sometimes thick smoke from the major wildfires in Northern Canada and the question has now been asked. How can I safely remove the ash on my vehicle?

Believe it or not, the ash on your vehicle can cause significant damage. AAA says when water makes contact with ash, it can then become corrosive and recommends washing your vehicle by hand.

“If ash is to the point where you are starting to see it on your vehicle, you’ll want to take steps to clean it without causing damage,” said Bryan Jajkowski, Battery and ERS External Training Specialist with AAA Western and Central New York.

Ash may appear to be soft and fluffy, but it is actually gritty and abrasive. When washing by hand, triple A recommends gently removing the layer of soot. Once it is removed you can then take your vehicle to a car wash.
