AAA Offering Safety Tips For Various Yard Work Projects

The warmer weather looks to have finally arrived, along with more sunny days. AAA says with Spring finally in the air, the organization is providing tips to homeowners on how to be safe when they’re sprucing up their yards.

Safety tips include for those mowing their lawn, trimming trees, cleaning roof gutters, and removing various yard waste.

When mowing the lawn, it is important to know how to quickly shut off your mower in the event of an emergency. Never leave your lawn mower unattended and make sure all safety equipment is properly attached. Before mowing, make sure to check the yard for stones and large branches which can pose a safety risk. Always keep young children away from the mower.

For those tackling tree trimming, AAA says you should prune trees regularly from damaging your home, deck, or any other type of outbuildings. Just because winter is now over, dead or diseased branches could still break.

Before cleaning your roof gutters, ensure the gutter is properly secured and downspouts will drain water away from the foundation. AAA recommends extending the bottom of your downspout by at least 6 feet from your home.

Lastly, when collecting yard waste of items including leaves, sticks, grass, and other debris, AAA says you should consider composting it instead of putting it in a landfill or burning (if allowed).
