National Teen Driver Safety Week is this week, and the organization AAA is giving out tips for parents trying to teach their teenagers to be careful behind the wheel.
AAA notes that more than 60% of teens get their driver’s license before age 18, and that they benefit from professional, one-on-one training. Such teaching is already required in New York as the Empire State requires the completion of a 5-hour pre-licensing course before an applicant can get a driver’s license.
AAA urges new drivers to be careful on the road by doing things like always being focused on the road without distractions, minding the speed limit and lowering speed while driving in bad weather, and being aware of other drivers on the road.
