Do you wonder how so many vehicles are able to violate New York laws against dark-tinted windows?
The state now has a new law that might help. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the law on Tuesday.
Under the new law, when you get an inspection, the garage must check tinted windows.
Any that block more than 30% of the light are illegal and will fail the inspection.
Inspection shops complain they have to spend more time on each car, and spend money to buy a tool to measure the light.
Some lawmakers acknowledge the expense, and suggest it’s only fair that the DMV may have to raise inspection fees.
The point is to help keep police safe.
