A 12-dot Illusion Is Giving People Fits

What We're Talking About

With one Facebook post, Japanese psychology professor Akiyoshi Kitaoka has sent the internet into fits.

It’s a gray grid that includes 12 black dots. But good luck trying to see the dots all at once. The dots are all there — it’s your eyes that are literally deceiving you. The image is called “Ninio’s Extinction Illusion,” named after the French scientist Jacques Ninio, who specializes in visual perception. There are actually 12 black dots at the intersections of the gray lines, but most people can’t see them.
