Starr Road Housing Project Moves Ahead, Public Hearing Planned For Dec.

Local News

Cortlandville planners have set a public hearing in connection with a zoning change, that if approved would clear the way for a multi-unit housing project along Starr Road.

Planners have deemed the 66 unit preliminary site plan complete and have sent the proposal back to the county planning board for additional comments and review.

Local developer Al Kryger is behind the project. Kryger has formed a new development company called the Leonidas group.

Kryger is asking the town to rezone a nearly 12-acre site along Starr Road from agriculture to planned unit development to accommodate a mix of single family, two family, and apartment units.

Kryger says the mixed residential development is aimed at baby boomers and older residents looking to downsize their homes or for younger homeowners looking to transition from an apartment to their first house. The development would include a community building with a fitness center. The property would be managed and maintained by a homeowners association.

The one thousand square foot single family homes would be priced between $120 to $140 thousand dollars. The entire development will cost close to $6 million dollars.

Neighbors on Parti Drive, which adjoins the site, have raised objections.

The planning board will hold a public hearing on the zoning change on December 1st at 7:30. The zone change must be approved by the town board.
