With the construction of the Little York Lake dam nearly half way complete the lake homeowners association is concerned the new dam is allowing lake levels to drop lower than the previous dam.
Paul Stepian with the Little York Lake Association says the new dam looks great and will be around for many years but residents there have complained that the lake is now lower than it has been in the past.
Stepian is looking to the county to form a committee to address not only water levels at the lake but also to draft a new lake management plan to guide maintenance and future plans for Little York Lake.
Stepian wants the plan to include measures to tackle the growing weed problem in the lake which threatens to choke out all recreational uses. He would like the county to install a boat wash station to reduce invasive coming into the lake.
Another problem is sediment build up in the lake. Years of silt have made the lake more shallow.
County lawmakers say they plan to put together a group to work on a new management plan.
