Cortland county employees may have had their personal information compromised as part of a massive cyber attack on health insurance provider Excellus Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
On Wednesday, the company announced that hackers had accessed personal information for millions of customer including names, social security numbers, claims information and other details.
Cortland County clerk Jeremy Boyland says the county has been informed that the county’s health insurance administrator was included in the security breach.
Excellus began mailing out letters directly to affected individuals Thursday. The company is providing two years of free identity theft protection services to customers. They have also established a dedicated call center for affected individuals to contact with any questions.
